Owen had a ped appointment today (which, I was informed, was a check-up after his last ear infection. Good to know why I took him this time. LOL). Anyway, ped says that his throat is a little irritated, but nothing to be concerned about (it's probably from the drainage because he has a stuffy nose right now). He also says that his tubes and ear drums look great (and, apparently, his tubes are blue). But it's a little red in there. Again, looks irritated. But, since the tubes and drums look great and there's no drainage then we're going to assume it's just a little red because it's only been 1 week since they were put in. If any drainage starts or if I suspect he has an ear infection then, obviously, bring him back in. Then the doc in training asks if Owen's had a 4 year check up yet. Uhhh.... no clue. But he's been in here so often can't you pretend one of those visits was a check-up?? Seriously- all Owen's doctors are through the same hospital (university of kentucky) so it's all in one chart. That chart is thicker than a freaking dictionary, and it's only been 7 months! No kidding. So I asked his ped if we can't just pretend one was and he thumbed through the chart, found one in October (which, in reality, was NOT a sick child visit. It was one to get referrals so the dr DID look over Owen) and said we could use that one as a 4 year check-up. Phew. We shouldn't have to go back to the ped until next October (said while laughing because I know in reality we'll be back long before then). Oh, and the doc in training learned a little about children with developmental delays. Here's the conversation she had with Owen....
"Owen- does anything hurt?"
"Yes"
"Do your ears hurt?"
"Yes"
"Does your tummy hurt?"
"Yes"
"Does it hurt when you poop?"
"Yes"
"Does it hurt when you pee?"
"Yes"
"Does your mouth hurt?"
"Yes"
"Does it hurt anywhere else?"
"Yes"
Then she turns to me with a look on her face like "Uhhhh..... why is your child in so much pain?!?" LOL!
Then the regular ped walks in and here's the conversation he had with Owen...
"Hi Owen, how are you today?"
"I'm doing good"
"Are you feeling okay?"
"Yes"
"Does anything hurt?"
"Yes"
"Where does it hurt?"
"I don't really know" (his newest phrase, said while laughing!)
Obviously the regular ped can conclude that he feels fine ;)
Owen saw the eye doctor yesterday. He was a trooper, but the poor kid hates having his eyes dilated (he has to every year to check for the retinitis pigmentosa). So far, no signs of it. Woo!!! No signs of the NF that they look for every year too. Yippee! They did do a vision test on him, which was kinda fun. Last year he wasn't nearly verbal enough to do one, this year he was. He did it perfectly all the way to the 20/30 line, then he just lost interest. He did a couple pictures from the line after that but then just kept saying "I don't really know" without even looking. So his vision may be better than that, we don't know. But good vision at 20/30 too!
I did the holter monitor this week, it was a PITA. But, done with and over now. Now we just wait for the results. I also did the blood work yesterday so just waiting for the results for that too.
Owen first day of soccer was today. He LOVED it! I got some pictures and video I'll post later. We also went out and bought him a sand and water table. It's too cold today to do water, but he did play in the sand for awhile and loves it. Again, pictures to follow :)
Gotta go play with the little turkey..... have a good weekend!

Did you get to feel your very first earthquake last night? LOL...I slept through it and missed it (but it was my 2nd earthquake--I was in a bigger one while I was in Vietnam).
Hope Owen handled it ok!
