Travel schedule

Jason is leaving for Budapest, Hungary on September 4th. On the 11th he'll fly to Geneva, Switzerland. He will return to the US on the 17th. So... Owen and I will be going to Michigan on the 4th-7th. We'll return to Kentucky on the 7th. We will be back in Michigan on the 16th-20th. We'll pick up Jason from Detroit on the 17th and head to Sam's on the 18th.

If Owen and I didn't have school we'd skip town and be in Michigan from the 4th-20th but, alas, he'd be considered truant and I'd get in trouble for that one ;)

Update

Alright.... so the pictures explained a lot of what we've been up to the last month. Owen started school last wednesday. It was a rough start but I have to say that it's gotten MUCH better. Friday was a pretty good day, Monday was a good day, Tuesday was a good day and today was a GREAT day! I went to pick him up and was greeted by his very excited teacher. She and the aide explained to me that Owen got *2* awards today! One was in music class he got an award for doing a great job and participating and such. Woo hoo! The other award is something they do in his class. It's called a "WOW award". It's apparently this really special thing that all the kids want to get but it's not given out often. When a kid gets a wow award they get to put bears in a jar (a class thing- when the jar is filled they get an extra 5 minutes of recess), get a special award thingy and they get to pick a prize out of the "wow bin". The teacher also informs the parent and the parent is encouraged to celebrate at home. So, anyway, they said Owen had a WONDERFUL day and they were all shocked. He did everything he was asked to do, they didn't have to tell him anything more than once. He listened really well and just did a great job. He even sat down and did his work when told to (table work/writing is really hard for him). YAY OWEN!

So I took him to Toys R Us after school. He picked out a new movie (LeapFrog Lets Go To School or something like that) and then decided to go look at trains. Here's the conversation that followed....

O- "Maybe I can get a train..."
Me- "Sure- you can get a train but we'll have to put the movie back"
O- "But mama- I got *2* awards... that means I get *2* treats.... right???"

Well, can't argue with that logic. He got the movie and train ;) Gotta love being out smarted by a 5 year old!

I started school this week too. I'm taking 4 classes- intermediate algebra (refresher course- it doesn't count towards my degree), a computer class, a writing class and human ecology. 3 of them are Tues/Thurs mornings while Owen's at school and the other one is Mon/Wed nights (Jason and/or his parents watch Owen then). I decided to make it easier on everyone and drop my work hours. I had been working 35-40 hours a week but dropped down to 12-18 hours a week. I'll be working Mon/Wed/Fri mornings while Owen's at school (sometimes Mon/Wed, sometimes all 3 days). It's much easier on Owen to be able to go home after school instead of going to daycare until 6pm while I was working.

Jason had originally been told he was going to China this fall. About a month ago they told him that trip will be delayed (to maybe early next year). Today they told him he's being sent to Europe.... in about 2-3 weeks. Nice warning, eh? I don't know all the details yet, he has a meeting tomorrow morning that he'll find out more details at.

Anyway.... I'll try not to abandon my blog again but I can't promise anything. Things will be getting more hectic as Owen and I both get into school so I may not get to updating as often.

Update/pictures

I am alive! LOL! Things have been a bit hectic here lately and I've abandoned my blog. Sorry! Here's a bunch of pictures that are totally out of order because, apparently, my blog is mad at me and wouldn't put them in the right order. Go figure.

This was Owen's first homework assignment. He was supposed to make a scrapbook page about him/his family. He put a picture of us at Disney, wrote his name, age and then "Love Mom"... all by himself. Awww.... What a sweetheart.

This is how his first day of Kindergarten ended. Yeah, totally not cool to end your first day of school in the ER :( He apparently had a great first day.... except at recess. It was time to go inside and he BOLTED for the road. His aide had to run after him and catch him. Somehow in that struggle (Owen was apparently PISSED that the aide caught him) Owen got his thumb hurt. He wasn't moving it so we took him to the ER for x-rays. They couldn't see a break but were concerned with all the growth plates that they could be missing one, since he still wasn't moving his thumb. Sooo.... they ended up putting him in a soft cast/splint thingy. The next day he went back to school but ended up pulling the whole splint/cast off about 2 hours after I dropped him off. Doh! So I picked him up from school and took him back to the dr. He was moving the thumb and there was no point in putting another splint on (because he wouldn't keep it on!) so we called it a day and said it's not broken. By Monday he was using it perfectly so it's okay now.

Here's how the first day of school started :) See, told ya they aren't in order. LOL!

A couple weekends ago we went to Cincinnatti and Columbus. Here's pics from the Newport Aquarium.

How tall Owen is...

Petting a shark. When he was done he said the "shark bit my whole arm!".... lol.... don't know where he got that one from but I can assure you- the shark did not bite him!

In the hotel room in Columbus

Couldn't not get a picture of this.... so cool! I gotta wonder how long it took them to build this?

Mid afternoon nap.... ah to be 5 again!

More pictures from the aquarium (again, not in order!).... a $2.50 bottle of water. Yikes! Had to take a picture just to have something to remember of that chunk of money. LOL!

Frogs!

Petting something.... can't remember what. Maybe a horseshoe crab or something?

This was weeks ago... I took Owen to a fair. He had a good time, but I was the only one with him and was on all the rides with him (except this one) so this is the only picture I got.

We also took him to a baseball game (I got free tickets from donating blood... woo!). He was pretty excited, but not too into the whole baseball part. He enjoyed the fireworks afterwards though.

He was watching all the vendors walking by selling stuff. He thought that was pretty cool and decided he wanted cotton candy. Yes, the kid who eats NO candy (except plain milk chocolate) wanted pure sugar. We got him some and..... he didn't really care for it. But at least it made it in his mouth!!

He decided to go for a vendor with a non-food item and got a giant hand ;)

And a random sleeping picture, because I thought it was cute.

Posting this now and will post another update in a different post....
