Last night Owen's fever kept rising higher and higher. By this morning it was over 104 and he was curled up in a ball moaning that his stomach hurt :( We called the dr and brought him in. They first thought it might be his appendix, but ruled that out. Then they thought kidney infection or bladder infection. After a quick pee in a cup (which Owen was NOT thrilled with and kept telling me "we don't pee in cups!!! We pee in POTTIES!!!") and the testing that goes with that, those were ruled out. He was only complaining of his stomach hurting and he had a fever. The dr checked his ears- both were fine (one tube is still in, one is out and just sitting in the canal). His glands on his neck were swollen, as were his tonsils (but he always has enlarged tonsils so it's hard to tell what's actually swollen). His throat was a little red but not horrible. She decided to do a strep test to rule that out before looking further. And the strep came back positive. I'm baffled on how his tummy could hurt and not his throat with strep but... who knew?
So, the question of the day was "how do we get medicine in him?". We had 2 choices- a 10 day course of antibiotics (3 times a day) but ALL of the antibiotics had to get in him. Or 1 dose of an antibiotic shot. Now, if I had a typical kid I'd have chosen the oral antibiotics, hands down. But Owen's my fun child ;) There's no way 30 doses of antibiotics was ever going to make it in his body. No. Way. The kid won't even take a dose of freaking tylenol. So, they called around looking for a pharmacy with the shot. They eventually found one, so I packed Owen up and went there to pick it up. Then back to the dr office to administer it. Needless to say- that was not fun. The poor pumpkin just kept screaming "THIS IS NOT FUNNY. THIS HURTS!" the whole time ;( Then we had to sit there for 30 minutes so they could observe him since the shot was a penicillin (and he's had a reaction to ammoxicillin).
After that we headed home. He ate a few bites of applesauce and a mini popsicle before falling asleep (around 1pm). Jason came home from work so I could go to work for a few hours at 2. By 4:00 Jason was calling me saying that Owen's temperature was 105.4 and that he wasn't moving (he hadn't woken up since he fell asleep at 1). So, I called the dr and talked to them and left work to run to the pharmacy to get him tylenol butt plugs. Ran home and gave him one. His temp went down a little, he did wake up for a few hours and ate a couple bites of food, but is now asleep again with his temp rising again. I'm sure it'll be a fun night....

Random things....
Tooth #2 came out this morning!

This was yesterday in the pool...

And a baby watermelon I found!!

Owen's ill.... again. Is this kid ever well for more than a couple days at a time??? 101.4 fever right now and complains of his tummy hurting. Who knows....
I found out on Friday that the daycare is going to close this next friday (the 3rd) for the holiday. YAY! We decided we were going to go somewhere for the weekend, since Jason's off work Friday too. We narrowed it down to Chicago, St. Louis, Atlanta, and one more that I can't remember. And the winner is...... St Louis! We're going to stay at the Renaissance Grand & Suites Hotel. We plan on going to the Gateway Arch. They're going to have a fair/festival thing on Saturday with fireworks Friday and Saturday nights. Our hotel is only like 5 blocks away from this. On Saturday morning there's a parade we'll go to, which starts just 3 blocks from our hotel. We're also going to the Science Center. As part of the hotel package, we have tickets to either a polar bear/penguin exhibit or a t-rex exhibit. We'll also go to this movie at the Omnimax theatre (tickets also included in our hotel package). We're going to try to get to the zoo too :)

Garden pics :)
Hard to believe how fast everything is growing!

Jalapeno plant that, sadly, was not planted far enough away from the zucchini. It's covering the jalapeno who, now, gets no sunlight. I have to decide whether to leave the plant there and hope for the best or carefully dig it up and move it. Hmmm... decisions decisions. The tiny jalapeno you saw in the last set of pictures was eaten. Kinda. I went out one morning to check and it was fine. I took Owen out to play in the afternoon and half of it was eaten! But not really eaten... something had bit it and spit it out all over the garden. LOL! Whatever did that got a surprise ;)

Pumpkin plant

One of the green bell pepper plants

Purple bell pepper plant (which is finally getting some new growth! THERE'S HOPE!

Watermelon plant... that just took off the last week or two.

Tooth Fairy
This is Owen's new "bed". He decided a few nights ago that he wanted to "camp" in his bedroom. He set it up with his sleeping bag, pillows, blankets, a flashlight and- of course- some trains :)

Discovering the Tooth Fairy came overnight...

I just have to laugh at "inflation".... the Tooth Fairy left $2, a new book, a new Handy Manny toy and a balloon. Whatever happened to 2 quarters?? LOL!

Big Smile!!

I've caught him all morning wiggling the other loose tooth. LOL! He's determined to lose that one too. Little does he know- the Tooth Fairy doesn't do that for all teeth ;)

Big news....
Owen lost his first tooth today! He was at daycare, had only been there for like 5 minutes, when his teacher walked him down to my room to show me his tooth was out! The stinker refused to eat all day (no breakfast, no lunch) so I sent a lunch with him at 2 when I had to go to work. He started eating it immediately and the tooth fell out. LOL!

Here he is with the little Tooth Fairy Pillow I made him tonight :)

Big smile! The tooth right next to it is also really loose and will probably fall out before the end of the week!

How does your garden grow?
Hehe... more garden pictures :) I love my little garden, though I'm a bit frustrated because there's been SO MUCH more bugs and disease in my garden then we ever dealt with in dad's garden. I don't know why and I don't know how to stop it, all I can do is deal with it as it comes. Anyway.... these were taken this morning.

Last week I decided that I was tired of that big brown area of the garden (where the onions and spinach were supposed to grow but didn't) so I bought 2 more plants for it.

The whole garden

pepper plant at the top, pumpkin plant under that, potatoes on the right

first green bell pepper!

watermelon plant that is FINALLY growing! It's been the same size for a loooong time.

Zucchini! Ready to be picked and made into dinner :)

The jalapeno.... which caught some sort of disease or something because it's turning black :(

Yellow squash. I don't know if it'll survive though. The plant caught powdery mildew and is dying.

Tiny Mr Stripey tomato

Romas

Early Girl tomatoes

All the tomatoes

Here's a cherry tomato plant (it has a couple tiny tomatoes on it but I forgot to take a picture of that)

And a lemon cucumber plant. Dad suggested it and I'd been looking all season for one. I finally found it last weekend! The plant wasn't looking too good last weekend but looks MUCH better now! Behind that you can see the carrots are still growing...

Pictures....
Eating a hershey's bar on the way to Michigan.

Playing soccer

Building construction vehicles with Lego's.

My poor ill little baby :( He's not feeling too well, but the only thing we can pin point is a nasty cough. Nothing else. Of course- odds are he has an ear infection he's not telling us about but.... the cough is the only thing we can see/hear.

The garden.
The lettuce is missing a lot because I already cut it down ;) The spinach never grew, neither did the onions. The carrots are growing, but I have no idea what's happening under the dirt!

3 tomato plants. The one on the right (the Mr Stripey) isn't doing as well. We came back from Michigan and it was turning brown ;(

Some of the Early Girl tomatoes!

Some Roma tomatoes!

Across the bottom, from L to R- yellow squash, zucchini, zucchini. Above those are 2 pepper plants

My first little zucchini!!

And a baby jalapeno pepper! The plant isn't really growing (none of the pepper plants are) so I have no idea if the jalapeno will grown big enough or not.

From bottom to top- green bell pepper plant, watermelon plant, pumpkin plant, purple pepper plant and potato plants. The pepper plants had the bottom leaves eaten off and then stopped growing :(

And a bee.... hard at work :)
