I just put in an application/resume for a job that I really really want. The place Owen gets his therapy at has a preschool program (which we're pretty sure he'll get into this fall). He'll be able to get all his therapy while in preschool. It's 4 days a week for 3 hours a day. The same place also has a daycare. This daycare is hiring! This would be PERFECT! If I stay at my current job then when Owen starts preschool I'll only be able to work afternoons (20 hours a week). Which is okay, but I would like to be able to work more (but would be unable to since I would have to drop off/pick up Owen). If I have a job at the daycare onsite then Owen can go to the preschool and then just go over to the daycare until I'm out of work! They have a pt position (20 hours) and a ft position (40 hours). I applied for the ft one. This would be absolutely perfect and, in reality, would save me a lot of money on gas (since I'll already be driving there 4 days a week for his preschool anyway). If I have to drive to that side of town 4 days a week and then to the other side of town 5 days a week (the preschool and my current job are on the complete opposite sides of town)... that's alot of gas!
Anyway, cross your fingers please!! This would be the absolute perfect solution for us right now!!!

Crap.
We made it about a month without any illnesses (other than the common runny nose that never goes away). That's not too bad, right?
And then today comes. Or, rather, tonight. Because he did great all day while Jason had him (I had class from 7:45-3:30). He went to his soccer, played at the park, went to the grocery store, etc. He had a great time and Jason said he was fine. I got home and Jason went to work. Owen fell asleep shortly after I got home. Shortly after he woke up he started puking. Lovely. 5 times and counting over the last 2 hours. Looks like it'll be a looooong night for me. At least he's getting good at getting it in the bucket....

Earthquake!!
Since people have asked (on here and text messages) I'll answer... nope, I slept through my very first earthquake. LOL! I woke up to my phone beeping around 7:45 (I think??) this morning, a text from Sam asking if I was okay. Thanks for checking up on me, and yes, we're fine :) I didn't feel anything, and neither did Jason. Owen slept all night so I assume he didn't feel anything. There are some people here who did feel it though. A couple friends of ours said that they woke up to their bed shaking. They live a little north of us, on the other side of Lexington.
Not much else to update on. I need to go clean. I have a class tomorrow (7:45am-3:30pm) so Jason's watching Owen until around 3:00 (when he has to go to work) and his parents are coming over to do the last little bit. Last night we ended up moving the stove, fridge, washer and dryer and cleaning behind those. Not fun! LOL! But it needed to be done.
Have a good weekend!

Pictures and echolalia funny
Pictures first!

Did you notice.... he's wearing sneakers!!! He still won't wear them on a daily basis. But he really really wanted to play soccer (has been talking about it for weeks) and I explained that in order to play soccer he has to wear his sneakers. With just a bit of crying, we did get them on. We made the deal that he could take them off after soccer and we would bring his Lightening McQueen outside slippers to change into. He wore the sneakers through soccer, 1 store AND lunch before he took them off. YAY!!!
And a quick funny. Sometimes Owen's echolalia isn't funny at all (like the one I posted about a couple weeks ago). Sometimes it's hilarious. Today was a funny one :) We were walking through Kroger, Owen riding in the cart. He kept bopping me on the top of the head (gently, thankfully!) and saying "You're a lot smaller than my last master". LOL! He had people all over the store laughing (yes, he said it the ENTIRE time we were in the store. Nothing would distract him today). It was cute. Bonus points for the person who can name what movie that's from!
"I scored mom! Did you see it??" He ran up to me everytime he "scored". LOL! (and, yes, he chose to use a pink ball. The entire time. LOL!)
Nap time? In soccer?
Goal!!!
How sad is this?? He tried really hard to make a pouty face ;)
There are time-outs in soccer, right??
"What's this?"
"Oh yeah, a fry!"
Playing with his new table (no water yet!).

Updates :)
Owen had a ped appointment today (which, I was informed, was a check-up after his last ear infection. Good to know why I took him this time. LOL). Anyway, ped says that his throat is a little irritated, but nothing to be concerned about (it's probably from the drainage because he has a stuffy nose right now). He also says that his tubes and ear drums look great (and, apparently, his tubes are blue). But it's a little red in there. Again, looks irritated. But, since the tubes and drums look great and there's no drainage then we're going to assume it's just a little red because it's only been 1 week since they were put in. If any drainage starts or if I suspect he has an ear infection then, obviously, bring him back in. Then the doc in training asks if Owen's had a 4 year check up yet. Uhhh.... no clue. But he's been in here so often can't you pretend one of those visits was a check-up?? Seriously- all Owen's doctors are through the same hospital (university of kentucky) so it's all in one chart. That chart is thicker than a freaking dictionary, and it's only been 7 months! No kidding. So I asked his ped if we can't just pretend one was and he thumbed through the chart, found one in October (which, in reality, was NOT a sick child visit. It was one to get referrals so the dr DID look over Owen) and said we could use that one as a 4 year check-up. Phew. We shouldn't have to go back to the ped until next October (said while laughing because I know in reality we'll be back long before then). Oh, and the doc in training learned a little about children with developmental delays. Here's the conversation she had with Owen....
"Owen- does anything hurt?"
"Yes"
"Do your ears hurt?"
"Yes"
"Does your tummy hurt?"
"Yes"
"Does it hurt when you poop?"
"Yes"
"Does it hurt when you pee?"
"Yes"
"Does your mouth hurt?"
"Yes"
"Does it hurt anywhere else?"
"Yes"
Then she turns to me with a look on her face like "Uhhhh..... why is your child in so much pain?!?" LOL!
Then the regular ped walks in and here's the conversation he had with Owen...
"Hi Owen, how are you today?"
"I'm doing good"
"Are you feeling okay?"
"Yes"
"Does anything hurt?"
"Yes"
"Where does it hurt?"
"I don't really know" (his newest phrase, said while laughing!)
Obviously the regular ped can conclude that he feels fine ;)
Owen saw the eye doctor yesterday. He was a trooper, but the poor kid hates having his eyes dilated (he has to every year to check for the retinitis pigmentosa). So far, no signs of it. Woo!!! No signs of the NF that they look for every year too. Yippee! They did do a vision test on him, which was kinda fun. Last year he wasn't nearly verbal enough to do one, this year he was. He did it perfectly all the way to the 20/30 line, then he just lost interest. He did a couple pictures from the line after that but then just kept saying "I don't really know" without even looking. So his vision may be better than that, we don't know. But good vision at 20/30 too!
I did the holter monitor this week, it was a PITA. But, done with and over now. Now we just wait for the results. I also did the blood work yesterday so just waiting for the results for that too.
Owen first day of soccer was today. He LOVED it! I got some pictures and video I'll post later. We also went out and bought him a sand and water table. It's too cold today to do water, but he did play in the sand for awhile and loves it. Again, pictures to follow :)
Gotta go play with the little turkey..... have a good weekend!

park, Ronald McDonald and tonsils
Here's a totally random picture post for you :)

Playing in the sand at the park. He loves to play in the sand and I just have to look the other way and not imagine all the crap in there. LOL!
Bring a goofball.
Today we were finishing up his second therapy when one of the woman who work there asked if we wanted to go to the main hospital next door. Apparently they were having some sort of celebration (no idea what was going on) and Ronald McDonald was going to be there. They wanted some kids around, but, for whatever reason, the people in the main hospital didn't tell the pediatric unit until minutes before. We were the only ones there (therapists were all going on lunch break) so we decided to head over. Owen was the only kid there so he got lots of attention from "OhMcDonald". He loved it! All the adults got a kick out of him, he was having a ball and just laughing at everything "OhMcDonald" said and did. Then we got kicked out because he was too loud and they were trying to do the presentation. Oops! Oh well, he had a blast! They told us to come back but we ended up going to McDonalds for lunch (right down the road, since we had to be back at therapy in an hour and it didn't make sense to drive all the way home).
And here's your gross out photo of the night..... check out those tonsils!! Isn't that nasty?!? Every doctor we've ever seen has commented on how large they are. They're not infected (right now), just large. It would explain why when he does get ill with tonsilitis/strep it doesn't take much to get them swollen to where he can't swallow.

Blah blah blah
First, I just have to post a picture of Owen. It's not good, but it's his first time wearing shorts this year. Yippee! Jason's parents bought the outfit for him and he was excited and wanted to wear it RIGHT NOW. LOL. So, here he is. Wearing his new outfit. And look... it's khaki's! Apparently khaki shorts are cool. Khaki pants "hurt". Huh. Who would have thought.

Anyway, another busy week coming up. Tomorrow I work 10-6, no other meetings/appointments. Tuesday O has ST at 10 and PT at 11 then I work from 2-6. I think before his ST I'm going to try to sneak a tour at a daycare around here. I've heard good things about them and they're hiring so... we'll see. Wednesday I think I'm going to run to the doctor in the morning and get my heart monitor thingy then I work 2-6. After work the doctor wants me to go to the gym and specifically try to get my heart rate as high as I can. It's been doing wonky things lately and shooting up WAY higher than it should when I'm working out (even when I first start it's way higher than it should be). So we're going to try to catch it on the monitor. Thursday O has an eye doctor appointment at 8:30 (good thoughts that there's no changes!). After that I'll go do my blood draw (it's in the same building) and turn in my monitor (same building). I work 2-6. Friday O has a ped appointment at 8:45 (for the life of me I can't remember why... ummm... yeah. I'm sure the doctor wanted to see him for some reason or another.....). Then he has feeding therapy at 10 and OT at 11. I work 2-6. Then on Saturday soccer starts!! Owen's so excited he gets to play soccer again. Everytime we go watch Jason play (a couple times a week) O wants to join him on the field. LOL! Unfortunately, I'm sure we'll have a battle on our hands trying to get his shoes on him. Grrrr. We'll see what happens. We ended up putting him in the 3 year old soccer again instead of the 4 year old soccer. The 3 year old soccer only meets on saturday and is more of a cute intro to soccer. No real games and everyone wins. The 4 year old soccer meets during the week and has actual games on Saturdays. Uhhh.... no, wouldn't work for Owen. Not at this time. Hopefully next fall we'll be able to get him into the 4 year old soccer (yes, I know he'll be 5 by then...).
Anyway, that's our week in a nutshell!

We're back!
Owen's surgery went really well. He did wonderful, a lot better than I expected! The only parts he fussed at was his bracelet (which he did a bit better with after we got "Greg" a bracelet too), when they made him get out of the toy car and get gassed (fussed for less than 30 seconds before he was out cold) and when they made him take drugs (tylenol with codeine) after the surgery was over. Other than that, he did great! Greg is what he named his Build A Bear, btw.

Anyway, Jason's gotta go to work in a few minutes so I've got to head back downstairs with Owen. He's up and running around like nothing happened.... kids are so darn resilient sometimes! I hadn't even gotten him in the carseat when he was grabbing a box of crackers asking to eat them :) By the time we got home he'd eaten enough to get some energy and is now running around playing.
Pre-op, in his cute little pj's they had him wear (he wasn't too impressed at all). With Greg, of course.
Post-op after we calmed him down from the tylenol fiasco. "This place is giving me a headache. Let's get out of here, Greg."
All smiles. You'd never be able to tell he just got out of surgery not even 15 minutes before!
The rest are random pictures.
This was taken last night... how cute is he!

Life is good when therapy is a giant lollipop! (Used to help strengthen his tongue and jaw muscles)
Under the water is SO much more fun than out of the water! This was taken at his swimming/water safety class he took this week. He had a blast!
This was on our way up to Michigan last weekend. He brought these VeggieTales movies with him and wouldn't let go of them... he even fell asleep with them. LOL!

Quick update on me....
This blog is 99% about Owen... lol.... but we'll insert a little about me today ;) I've been having some health issues lately (won't go into all the details today). Short story- I had a dr appointment today. I had a quick EKG, which turned out okay. I'm going to end up wearing a 24 hour heart monitor sometime next week to see if there's anything going on there. Next week I'll also run down and get some blood drawn. I don't know what all the tests are for but one is testing my thyroid. She said that by feeling it it feels "large, but not surprisingly large. The larger end of normal". So, whatever that means. LOL! Anyway, that's how I spent my morning. Fun fun.
Tonight we went to Build A Bear. It was so stinking cute! Seeing Owen get that excited about something is very rare. He picked out a brown fuzzy (so soft!) bear wearing a hospital/scrub outfit. It's cute! He named him Greg. Don't know where that name came from, but he insisted his name was Greg :) He had a blast, he really did. I am glad we took him. He's definately thrilled with his "special bear". Afterwards we went to Fridays for dinner. He did great, as he usually does (he loves Fridays and tries to convince me that we have to eat there every Friday. Ha. No). I'll try and sneak in his room in a little bit and get a picture of him. When I left the room he was hugging his bear and going to sleep.
Tomorrow will be an early morning (but not as early as Jocelyn's was!). We have to be at the hospital at 7:30 (it's only like a 15 minute drive, if that). His surgery is at 9. I started reading him his social story about going to the hospital tomorrow and he seems fine with it so we'll see how tomorrow goes....
